Hand Knotted Rugs
All the rugs that can be found in our showroom have been designed by Jenny and our in-house team of professional designers and are handknotted in either Nepal or India.
Each hand-made rug has a story to tell as it passes through the hands of numerous artisans and undergoes a number of processes to transform the initial design idea into the final piece of art on the floor.
Every stage of production is carried out by hand. Our producers only use the highest quality wool and silk, all of which is hand-carded and hand-spun. Throughout the weaving stage every knot is individually knotted by hand. A standard 2.4 x 3m rug can consist of anywhere between 800,000 and 1.7 million individual knots, depending on upon the knotting density. Once woven, the rug is washed by hand and dried in the sun. The rug is then finished by hand, which includes carving fine details and cutting high and low pile heights to give a three-dimensional textural effect.
Rugs have been made by this traditional method for centuries, and our use of this rug crafting method is the reason a Jenny Jones rug will last for generations, as art on your floor.
