For thousands of years, Aboriginal people have used fire as a tool to hunt, care for ecosystems, and manage the land. Through a practice known as Cool Burning, or Cultural Burning, small, carefully controlled fires are lit to clear underbrush. This method creates the patchy habitats favoured by small animals and helps prevent lightning strikes and wildfires from causing widespread damage.
My father, who was a farmer, also carried out annual burn-offs to clear undergrowth. With deep respect for Aboriginal people and their culture, this design has been inspired by this tradition.
